Forest Schools is an exciting educational experience for children held in a woodland setting, offering an innovative approach to outdoor play and learning.

The concept originated in Sweden in the 1950s, and was developed throughout other Scandinavian countries. Our philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire young children through an educational approach to outside play and learning. Children have a variety of first hand experiences while out in the forest, to support learning and development across the Early Years curriculum.

Children will use tools and play to learn about the boundaries of behaviour, both physical and social. It helps them to grow in confidence and self-esteem, and become self-motivated. Group sizes are normally 16 to 24 children, occasionally 32, with a ratio of 8 children per trained adult.
